What is The Loyolan Merit Scholarship and what is its impact?
Each fall and spring, the Student Media department and Student Affairs award scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing a degree at LMU who demonstrate a strong commitment to The Los Angeles Loyolan by serving in a leadership role.
Since the fund was established in 2008, 55 student staff members have received a scholarship. These scholarships are essential in allowing The Loyolan to attract and retain talented students. This allows students to gain meaningful experience and learn valuable skills they can take into their careers. The Loyolan Merit Scholarship gives students the opportunity to grow as journalists and people.
Why your donation matters
The Loyolan awards Loyolan Merit Scholarships to multiple students each year. Your donation to our endowment could transform the way in which The Loyolan Merit Scholarship is awarded. By increasing our endowment, The Loyolan would be able to offer more individual scholarships — and, when the occasion calls for it, bestow one exemplary student with a $10,000 scholarship. This would allow The Loyolan to retain exemplary talent and reward students for their work in Loyolan leadership.
“Without a doubt, my experiences at The Loyolan were the most defining and rewarding of my college career. Through The Loyolan, I learned a countless number of invaluable life lessons. I honed my writing skills, I learned how to stay calm in the midst of a production crisis, and I learned to communicate effectively in a broad range of circumstances.” — Kenzie O’Keefe (’12), former editor in chief and Loyolan Merit Scholarship recipient
